Trinidad cigars were personal gifts distributed by Fidel Castro to diplomats and visitors. It was a relatively unknown cigar brand until the late 1990s when it was finally made available in a commercial auction.

In the last 20 years Trindad has added hit after hit of tasty sticks to the export line, such as the superb Trinidad Coloniales.

The Coloniales is an elegant, mild cigar with buttery, cedary, and floral tones and a dash of black tea. Capped with the trademark perilla or pig’s tail, the Coloniales are an excellent staple in your humidor.

Trinidad Coloniales Overview

This well-balanced Robusto has mild notes of cream, cedar, and flowers. It is an excellent choice for an inexperienced Robusto smoker or as a slightly lighter smoke for earlier in the day.

With a length of 5.2” and a ring gauge of 44, this is a medium-length smoke with light and delicate flavors that are complex but not overpowering.

Smoking a Trinidad Coloniales

The Coloniales is a well-constructed stick with a pigtail cap. The draw is even and easy, however the cigar benefits from a smaller punch than usual.

The first third produces billowing and fragrant smoke that is not bitter but has a full bouquet nevertheless, with a pleasant nuttiness coming through the primary overtones of chocolate. The retrohale is mild enough to roll around your mouth and delivers a lovely earthy flavor.

In the second third the flavors deepen and are joined by mild citrus notes and herbaceous basil. By the final third, the cigar is at its best, with a lovely cedary and creamy taste with a hint of dark tea and cocoa nibs coming through at the end.

Cigar Value

The Coloniales hold up well, create minimal mess when smoking, and can even be put down upon occasion without the danger of going out. However, they need to be kept in a humidor and will peel and dry out if not kept in one.

Trinidad Coloniales Experience

This is an excellent cigar for a late morning or mid-afternoon smoke. With mild heat and medium spiciness it can be handled without too much trouble by a beginner. A delightful smoke with creamy, nutty, and flowery flavors predominating.
