The Punch Punch vitola was originally a pre-1960 release and has now become the signature cigar in the Punch series. It provides a light to medium-bodied smoke, with underlying tones of smokey hardwood and traces of milk chocolate.
Punch Punch Overview
The Punch Punch is a Corona Gorda, a stick released regularly by the Punch brand for over 60 years.
With a 5.6” length and a 46 ring gauge, this vitola is one of the smallest cigars in the Punch series. The tobacco is sourced solely from Vuelta Abajo leaf, with long filler and an oily Maduro wrapper with a tightly bound triple cap. It comes in packed boxes of 25 or 50.
Smoking a Punch Punch
The densely packed Punch Punch cigar has a Colorado Maduro wrapper and is less oily than the Deluxe Chateau vitolas in the Punch series. Lightly traced veins coil around this vitola, adding textural layers to the binding. There’s a foot to tip consistency expected of a signature cigar.
In hand the aroma is balanced and bursting with character. The foot offers a bold aroma on the pre-light, combining citrus with an understated honey base.
Unusually for a Punch vitola, the first third of this cigar is the most potently flavorful, mixing dark, smoky mesquite with overtones of chocolate and a mellowed-out sweetness.
The second third retains the mesquite wood base while bringing in a rounded natural leather taste and cedar freshness.
The Punch Punch’s final third brings together the earlier hints of cocoa with a slightly acidic aftertaste, before moving into a sweeter, botanical-inspired profile redolent of nectar and grass.
Pleasingly, the Punch Punch cigar produces thick plumes of smoke throughout. The ash holds well until the final inch.
Cigar Value
Given its medium-bodied branding, some people may find this cigar surprisingly light. It is medium bodied in the global sense, however a little on the light side compared to more famous Cubans.
However, compared to thicker, more expensive cigars like the Punch 48 and Double Corona, this vitola is excellent value for money. It offers a unique transition through flavors and aromas, burning throughout with a cloud of dense, sleek smoke.
Punch Punch Experience
The Punch Punch is a tightly-constructed vitola with a distinctive taste profile that dazzles throughout the first two thirds and ends on a warm, slightly spicy note. Even the most experienced cigar smoker will enjoy the unusual flavor transitions. This cigar’s predominant mesquite aroma makes it the ideal choice for an after-dinner smoke.
