Smoking a Le Hoyo de Río Seco
This cigar comes with an almost seamless Colorado Claro wrapper and a well-applied triple cap. The veining is minimal, and the wrapper has a delicate oily sheen that gives the cigar an elegant appearance.
It takes a little effort to get this massive cigar lit, but it has almost no combustion issues throughout the smoke’s length. The cold draw has herbal and vegetal notes, but when finally lit, it produces greyish-blue smoke clouds with a smooth creaminess distinctive of the Hoyo de Monterrey brand.
The first third offers mahogany and notes of damp cedar, plus green herb aromas of cilantro and parsley. Sweet spices join the melange in the second third and the intensity ramps up in the final third, notably with roast almonds.

Le Hoyo de Río Seco Overview
The Le Hoyo de Río Seco is the most recent addition to the 2014 Le Hoyo series from Hoyo de Monterrey. It follows the trend started by many other cigar houses for thicker ring gauge cigars with a shorter length.
This Robusto Extra has a substantial 56 ring gauge compared with its 5½” length, allowing the hefty stick to reach its full flavor potential in under an hour.

Good but better optionsDon't get me wrong, this is a fine cigar--we are spllitting hairs here a little. I got some grassy, cilantro notes throughout this cigar that I did not care for. For the money the San Juan is longer, less expensive and only 1 size smaller ring guage. And it tastes way better. Cuban twangIf you are looking for that classic Cuban twang and aroma that makes Cuban tobacco worth breaking the law to get then this HDM Seco is your smoke. Heavy draw with mild to strong twang aroma is addictive and I am on my third box. SCC is the place to shop for this Cuban twang and cigar experience. Great service great prices and fantastic smokes.
