Smoking a Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure Especial
Although the pre-draw has herbaceous tones, the most noticeable flavors of the first third are wood and an initial kick of spice. The second third brings out the cocoa and hint of chili-like spice that makes this cigar so memorable. The final third has hints of mushroom flavor, but leaves a beautifully sweet aftertaste, with caramel notes floating in from time to time.
The range of flavors makes this a cigar to be savored. Although it doesn’t require as much smoke time as some longer cigars, you want to set aside time to enjoy it properly. It works well as an after-dinner treat at home, but it is nice enough to bring with you to a social setting and chat about with friends.
Thanks to the cocoa and spice notes, this cigar pairs well with spiced rum and cognac.

This cigar is of average value when compared to other Hoyo de Monterrey cigars. It generally ages well, but the last third can grow harsh if aged in sub-optimal conditions. It is a good choice for relaxing weekend evenings when you’ll have time to enjoy it.
If you’re looking for longer burn time with the same incredible quality try the Double Corona, which is a bit more expensive but provides up to 2 hours of smoke time. Both deliver the signature Hoyo de Monterrey medium body with complex flavors and sweet notes.

The Epicure Especial is ring gauge 50 and 5.6” in length. The Robusto Extra size provides plenty of smoke and has a medium burn time of around 80-90 minutes.
It has a light-to-medium intensity, but some fans consider it to be closer to medium because of the richness of its flavors. It is highly regarded by a wide range of fans thanks to its smoothness, good draw, and consistently even burn line. In many ways it’s the perfect light to medium-bodied hybrid, appealing to just about any smoker other than those who smoke Double Coronas.

Not in the best conditionHaving made my first order I was happy with my overall selection. However, the box of Epicure Especials had a split Boveda in the plastic bag in which they were packed leaving the box a bit sticky and damp. Inspection of the cigars saw no visible damage but the subsequent smoke has been patchy with some evidence of damage to one or two of the cigars with split papers and damaged ends. About 4 of the 15 or so I have had to date have been substandard. The cigar itself is lovely, a medium strength for me. Overall still happy.Response from store Thanks for your feedback. A typically good HDM cigarA very nice cigar with good flavours. Not as good as the Epicure N 2 or the Anejados, but it is still a good HDM cigar. Thank you SCC for the great choices and customer service by Lohana.
